A beautiful full leather bound French book of sermons dated 1778. The end papers are naturally marbled and the rag paper is only lightly foxed. It is in remarkable condition considering it is 248 years old. What is most interesting about this book is that as you flip through you will discover small paper cutouts between some of the pages. The paper of the cutouts also appears to be rag paper suggesting that they could have been put there by the original owner.
In ghost lore and fiction, personal items left in books are sometimes tied to the spirit of the original owner. Moving them is seen as disturbing their memory.
